You can receive this error message when you are using the installer to update your licenses -- see Updating a License.
There are two reasons why you received this message:
The license file (license.dat) in the matlabroot\bin\win32 folder is invalid.
You have multiple valid license files in the specified folder (e.g., demo.lic and license.dat).
